The Marine National Facility (MNF) is collaborative national research infrastructure funded by the Australian Government and operated by CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency, on behalf of the nation.
The MNF was established in 1984 to provide Australia with a dedicated capability to conduct excellent marine research for national benefit.
The MNF includes:
The multidisciplinary ocean-class research vessel (RV) Investigator
A suite of advanced scientific instrumentation and equipment
A collection of 40 years of marine data made freely available for the benefit of all
World-leading expertise in vessel and voyage management, and technology development.
Southern Coastal Research Vessel Fleet (SCRVF)
This is a competitive application process assessed by independent committees and multiple applications are supported each year.
Australian researchers can apply for up to 14 days of fully-funded sea time aboard either the:
MRV Ngerin based in South Australia.
RV Naturaliste based in Western Australia.
RV Linnaeus (CSIRO) based in Western Australia.
This is a partnership between the South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI) and the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD), with funding from the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) and support from CSIRO Marine National Facility, to provide the marine research community with better access to coastal research vessels in southern Australia.
